Sunderland's new predicted final Premier League finish after Man City thriller
Sunderland are sitting in the bottom half of the Premier League table ahead of the first international break of the season.
Sunderland produced an encouraging display as they emerged without a point from an eight-goal thriller with Premier League title contenders Manchester City.
The Black Cats provided plenty of nuisance factor for their hosts as they pushed Enzo Maresca’s side all of the way at the Etihad Stadium in what was unquestionably the game of the season so far. City took a narrow lead into the half-time break thanks to a goal from former Sunderland loan signing Antoine Semenyo after a Brian Brobbey brace had cancelled out efforts from home duo Enzo Fernandez and Rayan Cherki.

Semenyo doubled his tally just before the hour-mark to stretch City’s lead to two - but Sunderland would not let go as Netherlands international Brobbey secured a memorable hat-trick and gave his side some hope of earning at least a point. However, any doubt over the destination of the points was ended when City defender Josko Gvardiol provided a cross for Erling Haaland to tap home from close range.
The result leaves Sunderland in the bottom half of the Premier League table after they suffered a third defeat in their first five games - but where are Regis Le Bris’ side predicted to finish when the season comes to a close next May?
We take a look at the latest final predicted Premier League table produced by the stats experts at Opta.
