Sunderland's average attendance compared to Premier League rivals after Sir Bob Murray expansion comments
Sunderland’s average attendances compared to their rivals across the Premier League.
It has been a busy start to the season for Sunderland fans and one that has brought a whole range of emotions.
From the frustrating on a late defeat at newly promoted Ipswich Town on the opening day of the campaign to the delight experienced on a historic night at the Stadium of Light as Regis Le Bris’ men claimed a narrow win against Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar on their Europa League debut.

There was also the understandably mixed emotions from watching Brian Brobbey plunder his way to a stunning hat-trick in a dramatic 5-3 defeat at Manchester City prior to the international break and pride in what was a powerful display that failed to reap rewards in a home loss against reigning Premier League champions Arsenal.
Throughout that time, Sunderland fans have got behind their side home and away and have provided some memorable atmospheres at the Stadium of Light and in the away ends around the country. They are one of the reasons why a visit to Wearside has become a tough test for the very best the Premier League has to offer as the Wearside faithful have packed out the Stadium of Light in both of their home fixtures in the league so far this season.
The thought of extending the Black Cats home was discussed by Sir Bob Murray in an interview with The Echo and he confirmed the capacity could rise to as much as 66,000 - but what is Sunderland’s current average attendance for league fixtures and how does it compare to their Premier League rivals?
