The former Sunderland loanee is reportedly set for a new role at Manchester United next season

Amad Diallo - who was linked with Sunderland and Leeds United last January - is set for a new role at Manchester United.

Amad, 21, signed a contract until June 2025 when he joined Manchester United in 2021 for £19million in a deal that could be worth up to an additional £18.2million if certain criteria are met. The deal also includes an option to extend for another year

During his time with Manchester United, Amad has spent time on loan with Sunderland and Rangers after failing to nail down a first-team position at Old Trafford. However, the former Sunderland loanee hit a career-high when he scored a sensational late winner in the FA Cup quarter-final victory over Liverpool last season.

Manchester United went on to win the competition against rivals Manchester City at Wembley with Amad part of Erik ten Hag’s squad. The attacking midfielder made 12 appearances for the Red Devils across the 2023-24 season, also scoring again against Newcastle United in the Premier League.

According to a Manchester Evening News report, Amad is now being grouped with the likes of Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund. Reports have suggested that Amad - alongside his young teammates - will form a young quartet that will spearhead United’s new-look team.

The MEN state that Manchester United now regard Amad as one of their more integral squad members for the future, which will likely end Sunderland’s hopes of bagging the player on loan again ahead of the 2024-25 season.

The news comes after it was reported that Manchester United had put almost all of their squad up for sale as they look to improve the team and raise funds under the Sir Jim Radcliffe-led ownership group.
