18 pictures of Pride in Sunderland as hundreds take part in city centre march

This year’s month-long Pride in Sunderland came to a close in style with a march attended by 600 people that painted the city centre in a rainbow of colour.

It was followed by a free concert in Sunniside Gardens, headlined by East 17. Here’s some highlights from the biggest Pride celebrations in the city yet.

As well as hundreds of individuals and families, many city businesses and organisations joined the march to show their support, including University of Sunderland.

Peter Darrant, chair of organiser Out North East, said he was delighted with the event. "What was joyous about the march was that all those who identify as LGBTQ+ and their allies were fantastic, but even people out having a coffee and shoppers who may have been a bit bemused started applauding and cheering. We brought Pride to them."
