A thief already behind bars for a shoplifting spree has had his jail term extended after he attempted to use another person’s bank card to buy cigarettes.

Now he has had another four weeks added to his sentence after he pleaded guilty to two earlier offences.

Ellison, 31, of no fixed address, admitted fraud by false representation by attempting to use a bank card to obtain cigarettes in Sunderland on February 25.

He has also pleaded guilty to assisting in handling stolen goods on the same date.

North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court jailed him after deeming the offences to be serious because of his previous record.

Ellison, who receive credit for his pleas, must also pay a £128 victim surcharge.
