Man stabbed in Sunderland as two arrested on suspicion of assault

Emergency services were called to Westheath Avenue on Saturday morning (January 9) where a 40-year-old man has been assaulted.
North East Ambulance Service said he suffered a ‘serious chest wound’ and was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

Hide AdA police investigation into the incident was launched and part of the street was cordoned off by officers over the weekend.
A 29-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of assault – but the man has since been taken to hospital for an unrelated medical condition.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 7.15am on Saturday (January 9) we were alerted by the ambulance service that a man had been assaulted inside an address on Westheath Avenue, Sunderland.
“Emergency services attended and found a 40-year-old man with injuries consistent with a stabbing. He was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

Hide Ad“An investigation was launched into the incident and officers arrested a 29-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman on suspicion of assault. The man was taken to hospital for an unrelated medical condition where he remains, while the woman has since been released on police bail.
“At this stage, officers believe all parties involved to be known to each other.
