Advice for parents after five-year-old girl goes missing from mum on Sunderland seafront

Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team was alerted after a report the youngster had been found by people as they were near to the Cat and Dog Steps in Roker after she could not find her family today, Wednesday, June 24, just after 2pm.
Scores of people headed to the coast today, which has been the hottest day so far in 2020, with more warm weather still to come tomorrow, although there is a thunderstorm warning for the end of the week.

Hide AdA spokesperson for the team said: “The team was called to a report of a five-year-old girl having been found by members of the public near the Cat and Dog Steps in Roker after becoming separated from her mother.
“Shortly afterwards Northumbria Police arrived to take charge of the child and while the Coastguard Rescue Team was preparing to search for the mother, she arrived at the scene and was reunited with her daughter.
“A member of Seaburn RNLI Beach Lifeguards also attended.
“During the current busy spell on local sea fronts, anyone responsible for the care of young children is urged to keep a close eye on them at all times.
“The wearing of bracelets by children showing an emergency contact telephone number is also recommended.”
