We danced as Middle of the Road sang Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep and watched The Onedin Line and the Generation Game on television.
We are talking about the early 1970s and meanwhile in Sunderland, you could well have spotted all of these sights in town. There’s concrete houses, a Busy-Bees Club, a derelict station, a familiar pub and more.
But don’t just take our word for it. Take a look through our photo collection which was kindly shared with us by Bill Hawkins.
We thank Bill for another great collection of images. Bill is a member of the Sunderland Antiquarian Society. To find out more about the history of Sunderland, visit the society’s Facebook page or its website at http://www.sunderland-antiquarians.org
