Harry Potter-inspired broomstick lessons resume at Alnwick Castle as tourist attraction reopens

Alnwick Castle officially reopened to the public on Saturday, August 15, offering visitors tours of its State Rooms, along with popular activities such as archery and broomstick training.
Under Covid-19 safety measures, all tours and activities will now be held in small groups and visitors must book a ticket for entry into the castle in advance via the Alnwick Castle website.

Hide AdBut once on site, visitors can stay as long as they wish, leaving plenty of time to enjoy the grounds and all the various activities.

When do lessons take place and who can take part?
Lessons will start at 10.30am each day with the last lesson of the day at 4pm.
In order to maintain social distancing, classes are limited to a maximum of 20 pupils.
Lessons are open to all visitors aged six and up.

Hide AdParticipants will be asked to sanitise their hands, before being guided to their broomstick for the lesson.
All broomsticks will be sanitised after each lesson and placed on the floor ready to be picked up by each pupil.
Spectators and participants must keep a distance of two metres from each other.
Participants may wear a face covering, though this is not compulsory.

Hide AdFor safety reasons, lessons can only take place if the take off zone is dry.
How much does it cost and how can you book?
Lessons are £12 per person and tickets can be bought via card payment only from the ticket tent positioned by the Lion Arch.
Visitors will need to have their admission booking confirmation to hand as they will be asked for their booking reference number when purchasing a broomstick lesson ticket for compliance with the NHS test and trace scheme.
Tickets will only be released an hour before each lesson is due to start
