The Black Cats are eight points off league-leaders Hull City but have two games in hand and a game to play against them.
EFL clubs from the Championship will get the action underway on Monday, May 17, with the first legs in all three divisions due to be completed by Thursday, May 20.

Hide AdThe play-off semi-final second legs will take place between May, 21 to 23, including three fixtures from the Championship and League One on Saturday 22 May.
The finals weekend at Wembley will take place across the May Bank Holiday, with the League One play-off final taking place on Sunday, May 30 with a 12pm final.
