Aiden McGeady’s first goal of the campaign earned the Black Cats a point after Reece Burke’s opener, in a result which ensured neither side gained ground in the promotion race.
But which of the Sunderland side caught the eye, and who has work to do? Scroll down as Phil Smith dishes out his players ratings from the 1-1 draw:
1. Lee Burge
Made a big error for Hull’s opener, though it was questionable whether he should have been on the pitch after a knock to the header moments before. Made one excellent stop from Eaves before being replaced at the break. 4 Photo: FRANK REID 2020
2. Dion Sanderson
Struggled a little in the first half, with Eaves picking up some dangerous positions in the box and not tracked by the Sunderland defence. Much better in the second, and made some good interventions as the visitors threatened on the break. 6 Photo: Frank Reid
3. Bailey Wright
Managed the game well after being forced into taking a yellow card early on. Sunderland looked uncertain at the back early on but steadied thereafter. 6 Photo: Frank Reid
4. Conor McLaughlin
Made one or two crunching challenges on Wilks in what proved to be one of the key contests. Wilks was able to deliver some dangerous crossed too often, though, and Sunderland were fortunate Eaves did not convert two big chances. 5 Photo: Frank Reid
