Sunderland-related transfer gossip from around the web as clubs prepare for the summer window.

Former Sunderland goalkeeper Jason Steele has been linked with a shock move to Premier League title challengers Arsenal.

The Gunners look set to let second-choice stopper Aaron Ramsdale depart this summer, which would leave Mikel Arteta’s side looking for a replacement to act as back-up for David Raya.

According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal would ideally like to sign a homegrown keeper to help them comply with Premier League squad rules. Former Gunners keeper Wojciech Szczesny, now 34, is said to be an option as he came through Arsenal’s academy before joining Juventus in 2017.

The report also states Brighton keeper Steele ‘is another homegrown goalkeeper that Arsenal may target,’ yet the 33-year-old still has two years left on his contract at the Amex Stadium.

Steele has been rotated with Bart Verbruggen at Brighton this season, making 16 Premier League appearances. Steele joined Sunderland in 2017, after spells at Middlesbrough and Blackburn, but endured a forgettable season on Wearside as the Black Cats were relegated from the Championship.
