Dale boss Brian Barry-Murphy claims his side are set to pit their wits against one of European football's big boys, when Spotland – now known as the Crown Oil Arena – plays host to Steve Bruce & Co in the third round of the FA Cup next month.
Speaking after his side triumphed in a second round replay at non-league Boston United, former Hartlepool United defender Barry-Murphy said: “We are delighted to progress to the next round.

“We showed a different side of our qualities and the combination of experienced players and young players showed in the ‘never say die’ attitude.
“I am just so happy for the players to have got the win that allows us to go and play one of the biggest clubs in Europe in the next round.”
Rochdale will host United on January 4, kick-off 12:31pm. The game will also be shown live of BT Sports, with United's allocation today announced as 3,200.

“There was a real mature element to our performance.
“To get the win is great news for everyone at the club and provides us with a great feeling going into a brilliant part of the season."
