Tree sparks fears of overturned boat off Sunderland's coast as public praised for raising the alarm

Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team was joined by the crew of the Sunderland RNLI when a series of reports were made at 9.35am today, Monday, October 19, to say a boat had overturned in the water off Cliffe Park in Seaburn.
A spokesperson for the Coastguard team said: “It was quickly established that no boat was involved but a large tree.

Hide Ad"A false call with good intent on this occasion but members of the public who contacted HM Coastguard are thanked for their concerns.
"Mariners should always keep a sharp lookout for debris floating in the sea, especially during poor visibility or in darkness.”
The team has added a reminder any coastal emergencies should be reported by calling 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
