Fallen leaves lead to substantial delays on Metro in Sunderland and South Shields
Tyne and Wear metro say there are substantial delays at present between Monkseaton to South Shields and Regent Centre to South Hylton after a technical fault and fallen leaves have caused low rail adhesion.
The metro service tweeted the issue at 8.00 am today, Wednesday, November 11.

Nexus, which runs the system, says leaves that fall on to the line, particularly in damp or wet weather can cause delays to the service.
The service said ‘low rail adhesion’ due to leaf fall in the autumn months is expected and the team are working to prevent delays.
Metro apologises for any inconvenience caused.
