Sell out crowd enjoys real fun at Fake Festival
The tribute band event, now in its fourth year at Riverside Park, sold out its 2,000 tickets with gig-goers enjoying a day of live music.
Local bands including Riverain, Edenthorn, The Firelight Opera, Hazels and Sean Hainey warmed up the crowds with a mixture of their own material and covers ahead of tonight’s headliners: Stereotonics and Antarctic Monkeys.

People think it’s just a marketing tool when we tell people to make sure they get their tickets early, but it really isn’t. We’ve had hundreds of emails from people asking if there are any left.
“We’re now in our fourth year here and it’s a great atmosphere. It’s a real nostalgia thing for people as they can hear live hits from bands they may not have seen live for years.”
Dan Foster from Castletown, guitarist and lead vocalist with five-piece The Firelight Opera said: “We played the Tynemouth Fake Festival last year and it’s always a great event, which is really well done tech-wise.
“It’s such a good platform for local bands.”
The band, who are currently recording their debut album, performed some of their own alternative rock tracks as well as covers including Green Day’s Good Riddance (Time of Your Life).
