Seaham beach closed by police during investigation into 'suspicious item' found near Nose's Point

Witnesses reported that a police cordon was in place near Nose’s Point, in Seaham, on Wednesday evening (April 1) at around 7pm and say officers were stopping walkers from heading to the beach while an investigation was carried out.
The area was cordoned off by Durham Constabulary for almost two hours while an investigation was carried out.

Hide AdThe report turned out to be a false alarm and the beach was reopened.
A spokeswoman for Durham Constabulary said: “We we called just after 7pm last night following reports of a suspicious item on a beach at Seaham.
“Officers were deployed but it turned out to be a false alarm.
“An item believed to be related to a fishing vessel was removed by officers and beach was back open before 9pm.”
