However, although the Whickham Street premises were built 20 years ago, as a school Easington Colliery Primary is more than 100 years old.

She said: “It was an absolutely brilliant day, all the children, staff and parents were delighted, we had a fabulous day.”
The day started with a celebration assembly, including a documentary about the local area produced by the children.
After dinner all the children took part in a parade around the nearby streets to celebrate the event with the wider community.

When the parade arrived back at school a huge celebration event, with performances from the children, were held on the school field.
Ms Reddle said: “There were so many people who came to support us, we didn’t have enough chairs for everyone.”
In the run up to the special day the children did a lot of work looking back on the history of the school, including when it was based in Seaside Lane, and created a pop-up museum on the school field for visitors to look at all the work they had done.
They also researched a lot about the history of Easington.
