Meet the Sunderland great-great-grandmother who celebrated 100th birthday with five generations of family
Edith Marsden, marked the milestone on Friday, November 22, surrounded by five generations of her family at The Croft Care Home in Sunderland.
The much-loved grandmother as born in Sunderland in 1919 and spent her life in the city, living in the Thorney Close area.

Hide AdA mum-of-four children – Pat, Kenny, Audrey and Alan – Edith worked as a shop assistant for a number of years and enjoyed holidays to Scotland with her family.
Edith has lived at The Croft Care Home for four years and is a popular resident, with staff describing her as a ‘lovely person’ with a ‘dry sense of humour.’
The home organised a party for Edith’s birthday which featured live music from a singer who performed many of the songs that Edith would have grown up listening to.
To mark her special day, Edith was also presented with a cake and received a card from the Queen wishing her a Happy Birthday.

Hide AdEdith, who has has nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren, was visited by many members of her family to celebrate the occasion.
Family members also travelled up from down south to visit Edith on her special day.
The youngest generation of her family, her great-great-grandaughter Isabella Cummings, who is aged just three weeks old, was even at the home to spend time with Edith on her birthday.
