Sunday, March 14, marked the end of a 48-year long wait to see Sunderland AFC win at Wembley as they beat Tranmere Rovers 1-0 in the Papa John’s Trophy final.
Ahead of the match, the Northern Spire bridge, Hylton Castle, the Beacon of Light, Keel Square, Fulwell Mill, the white lighthouse at Seaburn, Market Square and High Street West were all lit up red and white to cheer the team on.
The landmarks will now remain lit up throughout this evening (Tuesday, March 16) to pay tribute to the club for bringing silverware back to Wearside for the first time in a generation.
