Passenger taken to hospital after Metro held at South Hylton station

Delays were reported on the Metro network in Sunderland after a train was halted at South Hylton.

Operator Nexus confirmed via the @My_Metro Twitter account on Friday, October 30 shortly before 9.30am that there was a gap in the service between South Hylton and Airport stations, due to a passenger needing medical assistance.

A statement said: “A train is being held at South Hylton for a passenger waiting for medical assistance.

"Due to this we have a gap in the service of up to 15 mins to trains running between South Hylton and Airport.

"Please leave extra time for your journey if you're travelling in the area.”

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service confirmed to the Echo that a person had been taken to hospital.

She said: “We were called at 9.13am to a person unwell at South Hylton Metro station in Sunderland.

"We dispatched a double-crewed ambulance and transported a female patient, believed to be in her 40s, to Sunderland Royal Hospital.”
