Monkwearmouth parish service for Ash Wednesday will be held at St Peter’s Church at 7pm.

St Peter’s ward surgery will be held at Roker United Reformed Church, Sidecliff Road, on Saturday with Councillor Julia Jackson in attendance.

Fulwell WI members will meet on Tuesday, February 16, in Fulwell Community Centre, Chapman Street, at 7.15pm, for their 7th birthday. Speaker will be May Grimes on Circle Dancing. All ladies are welcome.

See the amazing moving models of the North East Meccano Society and make your own models from KNEX kits from 11am to 1pm and 1.30pm to 3pm on February 16 in the Children’s Gallery at Monkwearmouth Station Museum.

Decorate your very own stained glass monkey at Fulwell Library on Wednesday, February 17, from 2pm to 3pm. The event is suitable for all ages but children under eight must be accompanied by an adult.

First Roker District Brownies meet every Wednesday during term-time in Seaburn New Church between 5pm and 6pm. Rainbows are girls between five and seven years. They play games and have various activities and crafts. Anyone interested, phone Christine on 5652547 or 07719181262.

Wearside Field Club will meet tonight at 7.30pm in Fulwell Community Centre, Chapman Street. Speaker will be Tony Devos talking about Limestone Landscapes. Next walk will be on Saturday, February 20, a Rising Sun, led by Brian Gray. Meet at Park Lane Interchange at 10am. All are welcome.

Fulwell ward surgery will be held in Fulwell Library, Dene Lane, on Saturday from 10.30am to 11.30am, when one of the ward councillors, Howe, or Francis, will be in attendance. Councillor Beck will be in attendance from 10am to 11am.

Robbie Burns’ birthday is Scotland’s second national day and for the first time in its 63-year existence, Seaburn Rotary Club held a Burns Night on January 26 at the Marriott Hotel. More than 60 people attended the occasion. The haggis was paraded in on a silver platter by the chef to the skirl of the pipes played by Paul Hamilton together with the orator, Andrew Brown. The address to the haggis “Great chieftain of the pudding-race” and toast was made by Andrew, which was concluded with the haggis beingslit open.

At the end of the meal of Cullen skink ; Haggis, tatties and neeps with whisky gravy followed by Clootie pudding, there was the toast to the lasses given by John McLoughlin, of the Seaburn Club. The final part of the evening was a performance of songs by Voices Together, a Sunderland choral group.The evening ended traditionally with everyone joining in with Auld Lang Syne. Wearside Photo Imaging is a small camera club of photographic enthusiasts, who meet on the first and third Wednesday of each month at Fulwell Community Association, Chapman Street, at 7pm. Activities are many and aimed at increasing knowledge in photography and image manipulation. New members are welcome.

Spanish classes for primary children, aged five to 11, are starting at Tesco Extra, Newcastle Road. Classes will be held every Monday during term-time from 4.30pm, starting on February 22.
