Members of Sunderland’s Wild Sea Women, who swim in socially distanced groups at various points during the day, spotted the overflowing bins first when they arrived for their pre-dawn dip this morning, and gathered up some of the rubbish left on the beach.
Jane Peverley of the Wild Sea Women said some of the waste, including glass and plastic bottles, dirty nappies and chip wrappers, will have washed out to sea at high tide.
