RSPCA investigation launched after 'number of horses' found in poor health in Hetton

Witnesses have reported seeing a number of police and RSPCA vehicles near the allotments off Richard Street, Hetton, on Thursday, October 15, shortly before 2pm.
An investigation is now ongoing to see if any criminal offences have been committed.

Hide AdA Northumbria Police spokesman said: “A number of horses were found to be in poor health and were subsequently seized by RSPCA officers. We will continue to support their investigation and ascertain whether any criminal offences have been committed.”
It is believed a large number of horses were removed from the site by RSPCA rescuers but an exact number has not yet been confirmed.
A RSPCA spokewoman added: “Together with Northumbria Police, RSPCA rescuers have removed a number of horses from a location in Sunderland following welfare concerns.”
