Police officer taken to hospital after stolen vehicle crashed into force car following pursuit

A 33-year-old was arrested at the scene of the crash involving a suspected stolen car and a police vehicle at Testo’s roundabout in the early hours of Thursday, July 2.
An investigation into the incident, which led to a closure of the northbound A19 carriageway between the A184 and the A194, is ongoing.

Hide AdNorthumbria Police officers had spotted a suspected stolen vehicle and followed it travelling along the Felling bypass in Gateshead.
The car then crashed into another police vehicle at Testo’s roundabout.
The suspect was taken to hospital following the crash with non life-threatening injuries.
A police officer, who was driving the other vehicle involved in the crash, was also taken to hospital as a precaution.

Hide AdA force spokesperson said: “At about 5.20am today officers sighted a suspected stolen vehicle travelling along the Felling bypass in Gateshead.
“Officers followed the vehicle in question which later crashed into another police vehicle at Testo’s roundabout.
“Emergency services attended the scene and a 33-year-old man was arrested at the scene. He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
“An officer who was in the other police vehicle was also taken to hospital as a precaution but has since been discharged.”

Hide AdThe North East Ambulance Service also sent a double-crewed ambulance, two hazardous area response teams and a clinical care manager to the scene.
It took one person to South Tyneside District Hospital.
