Police divers return to Sunderland lake as search linked to Andrew Mather murder investigation continues

A search of Silksworth Lake, at Silksworth Sport Complex, off North Moor Lane, is being carried out in relation to the murder of the 48-year-old Andrew Mather, of Sunderland.
Mr Mather’s body was sadly found at his home in Aintree Road, Farringdon, at around 12pm on Wednesday, June 3.

Hide AdThe marine unit was first seen searching the lake on Tuesday, June 9, but the team has now returned to the lake on Thursday, June 11.
Wayne Miller appeared at Newcastle Crown Court yesterday (Monday, June 8) charged with his murder.
The 32-year-old, of Dene Street, spoke only to confirm his name, age, address and nationality at the hearing.
He has been remanded in custody and will next appear at court on Monday, July 6.

Hide AdA number of police units have returned to the lakeside today (Thursday) and a diver can be seen carrying out a search of part of the lake.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “Our Marine Unit are in the area carrying out searches in relation to the Sunderland murder investigation.”
Several properties and locations across the city have been searched as part of ongoing inquiries into Mr Mather’s murder.
On Thursday, June 4, a PCSO was pictured outside an address in Purley Road, in Plains Farm, and witnesses say a forensic team was seen entering the property.

Hide AdAnd a police cordon was in place outside a garage in York Street last week as the murder investigation continued.
Three others – a 45-year-old man, and two women aged 38 and 18 – were also arrested on suspicion of murder but have since been released under investigation.
A 50-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, has also been released under investigation pending further inquiries.
