Four arrests after police helicopter scrambled to track suspected stolen vehicle in Sunderland

Northumbria Police officers were first called at 9.20am on Saturday to reports of a vehicle driving erratically in the Saint Pauls Terrace area of Ryhope.
Four men have now been arrested by the force and remain in police custody after officers then found the abandoned vehicle in the Horsley Road area of Washington.

Hide AdAll arrests were made on suspicion of either aggravated vehicle taking or theft of a motor vehicle.
A fifth man suspected of being involved in the incident has not yet been located by police and a search is ongoing.
The police helicopter was scrambled to the area to assist officers in tracking down the vehicle in question.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson told the Echo in a statement: “At about 9.20am today we received a number of reports from the public about a vehicle that driving erratically in the Saint Pauls Terrace area of Sunderland.

Hide Ad“Officers were deployed with the assistance of the National Police Air Service (NPAS) and found the vehicle abandoned in the Horsley Road area of Washington.
“Four men – aged 36, 33, 31 and 30 - have since been arrested and remain in police custody at this time.
“Another man suspected to have been involved remains outstanding with inquiries ongoing to locate him.
