Hide AdAll “non-essential” retail premises were ordered to close by the Government on Monday, March 23 – with the following exceptions, according to official documents:
*Supermarkets and other food shops
*Health shops, pharmacies including non-dispensing pharmacies
*Petrol stations
*Bicycle shops, garages, car rentals
*Home and hardware shops
*Laundrettes and dry cleaners
*Pet shops
*Corner shops, newsagents, post offices, and banks
Market stalls which offer essential retail, such as groceries and food, are also permitted to stay open in line with the latest Government advice.
Members of the public were urged by the Prime Minister to work from home where at all possible.

Hide AdThough cafes and restaurants were also ordered to close in a separate update on Friday, March 21, food deliveries and takeaway services may continue to operate and many restaurants in the city have moved to this.
A Government document issued by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government said that “everyone is instructed to comply with the rules” to protect both themselves and others.
