Sunderland weekly Covid-19 case rate stays steady, according to Public Health England figures

A report is now being released every week, showing the latest Covid-19 case rates per 100,000 population by local authority area.
According to the latest data – released on Thursday, July 23 – Sunderland’s case rate for the week ending Sunday, July 19 remains at 2.5 – the same rate as the seven days prior.
The figure combines both pillar one and pillar two testing.

Hide AdPillar one tests take place in a laboratory setting, while pillar two covers tests carried out in the wider community.
The latest figures show that a number of upper-tier local in the North East have seen an increase in the number of cases.
According to the latest statistics, Middlesbrough has the highest case rate at 5.7 – up from 2.1.
Blackburn with Darwen now has the highest case rate in England, with 79.2, having overtaken Leicester.
